When I say that the Church needs
restoring, I really mean it. One of the main things
that must take place for her to be restored is the
denying of self within her members. The Church in the
United States often teaches people they can be
fulfilled and have whatever they want and desire. This
is not true biblical teaching. They take faith and
teach it as a desire-getter. Jesus will take care of
us, but He doesn't promise to fulfill the desires of
self. Many church attenders dress their desires up in
church clothes and try to get what they want by acting
a certain way and doing certain things. This is only
selfishness disguised. People get all upset about the
carnality and selfishness of certain preachers and at
the same time are following their own brand of
selfishness and carnality. I promise you that in time,
unrepentant preachers will reap what they sow, but I
also tell you that all unrepentant people will do the
same.
One can be a church member and
even a preacher and be focused on self, but no one can
be a disciple without denying self. Please study Luke 9:23. “I can do all things through
Christ who strengthens me” doesn't mean I can do
what I want and Jesus will help me. The Church as a
whole, especially in the United States, needs a
renewing of the mind (Romans 12:1-2). A major part of renewing the mind
involves the denying of self. We must turn our minds
from self to God. The spirit of our mind will need
changing also. Let's yield our minds to the Holy
Spirit, and He will give us the thoughts and desires of
Jesus Christ.
