Be a Faithful Disciple of Jesus
Christ
“If effectual, fervent
prayer by all Christians is necessary for carrying on
the work of the Lord, then the work of the Lord is
suffering.”
If certain Scriptural checks and
balances were selected as instruments for correcting
and directing the course of the modern Church,
presently they would prove to be unsuccessful. Why? It
is because most members of the body of Christ are not
studying the Word of God enough to enable them to
comprehend the truth needed to monitor the Church and
keep her aligned with the truth of God’s Word. If
effectual, fervent prayer by all Christians is
necessary for carrying on the work of the Lord, then
the work of the Lord is suffering.
The Church is in dire need of
disciples who are devoted to following Jesus Christ,
disciples who commune with Him continually in prayer
and through the study of His Word. I encourage all
Christians to study the admonition given in Hebrews 5:12-14. These verses offer tremendous insight
and direction for those who want to become devoted
disciples of Jesus Christ. Any Christian who will study
and meditate on these verses, and take them seriously,
will come under conviction from the Holy Spirit
concerning the importance of knowing and teaching the
Word. Any Christian who will seriously study the life
and teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ will be
convicted of the importance of prayer. Oh, for
disciples who pray and study! Oh, for disciples who go
and make disciples who will pray and study!
The Word of God teaches us that
judgment begins at the house (Church) of God;
therefore, voluntary judgment should be ongoing in the
Church that Jesus is building. Just as wise virgins
make sure that they always have oil in their lamps,
wise disciples regularly examine their lives in light
of the truth of Jesus Christ and His Word of truth.
Will you examine your life in light of your devotion to
Christ being expressed through prayer, through study of
the Word, through teaching the Word, and through the
making of disciples? All of this will take faith and
obedience, but faith and obedience are always
characteristics of devoted disciples.
Will you respond to the call of
the Holy Spirit for disciples who will pray and study
the Word of God, the whole (entire) Word of God? Will
you activate your faith in God and begin to go and make
disciples, who in turn will make disciples? You were
born again to be a disciple. You were born again to
make disciples. By faith in God and His Word, become
what you were born to be. Be a faithful disciple of
Jesus Christ!

BIBLICAL APPLICATION:
Confess your trespasses to one
another, and pray for one another, that you may be
healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous
man avails much. Elijah was a man with a nature like
ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain;
and it did not rain on the land for three years and six
months. James 5:16-17
