Restoring Truth and Power
“The modern-day Church is in
a state of crisis, which is well illustrated
by her
deficiency in truth and power.”
Jesus Christ came to the earth
with a mission. When He returned to the Father, it was
His intention that His Church would complete the
mission that He had begun. Two fundamental and
essential characteristics of the Church that Jesus is
building to accomplish His mission are that she be
filled with and move in truth and in power. The
modern-day Church, as a whole, is deficient in both
truth and power. Being deficient in either of these
areas is a major problem, but being deficient in both
is a crisis. The modern-day Church is in a state of
crisis, which is well illustrated by her deficiency in
truth and power.
Before God created the earth as we
know it, Lucifer rebelled against God in heaven. When
he was cast out of heaven, he set out to elevate his
throne above the Throne of God by causing God’s
created beings to turn away from God and to serve him.
He infiltrated the Garden of Eden through the serpent
and deceived Adam and Eve into rebellion against God
and His truth. Satan, Lucifer’s new name, struck
a terrible blow and caused a bruise on the heel of
mankind, but he did not understand when God told him
that the Seed of the woman would crush his head. That
Seed is Jesus Christ. Jesus came to do away with the
works of the devil, Satan, who through deception and
lies has robbed the Church in the areas of truth and
power. Jesus came to seek and to save that which was
lost.
Satan constantly attacked the
people of the old covenant, and shortly after the birth
of the Church, he began infiltrating the Church with
his false ministers disguised as ministers of
righteousness. The Bible warns that the problem of
false teachers, false teaching, and deception will
increase in the latter days in which we live. False
ministers are even causing some Christians, including
ministers, to fall away from God’s truth and His
power. The residue of their deceptive teachings and
vain philosophies abound in the Church today.
Satan lives to war against God. He
warred in heaven, he warred in the Garden, he warred
the old covenant people, he warred Jesus and the early
Church, and he continues to war the people of God
today. While she is singing “Victory in
Jesus,” much of the Church is in bondage to
Satan, and she may not even be aware of it. The Church
in bondage cannot truly free the world from its lost
and dying ways, nor can she be effective in making
disciples for Jesus Christ.
What do we do? We must wake up and
realize the state of the Church and the world, as well
as our own hearts, and we must repent! We must return
to God and begin to feast on His Word of truth and
allow it, through the Holy Spirit, to change our hearts
and our minds. We must be holy in all of our conduct,
for He is holy. We must pray without ceasing. We must
yield to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to restore
God’s truth and power to us and to His Church. We
must fight the good fight of faith; we must fight until
victory is achieved. The weapons of our warfare are not
carnal but mighty in God for pulling down the
devil’s strongholds, both in and out of the
Church.
I encourage you to ask yourself
the following questions: Am
I sanctified by truth? Am I discerning and ministering
truth? Am I filled with the power of God? Am I
releasing power, both inside and outside of the Church,
to free people from bondage?
I encourage you this week to study
the Scriptures concerning the restoration of truth and
power in the Church. I encourage you to set aside a
time daily for structured Bible study and prayer. You
will begin to see a change taking place inside of you.
To God be the glory!
