The message of Lamentations
Chapter Three and verse forty is very applicable to the
Christian Church* of our present time. It reads,
“Let us search out and examine our ways, and turn
back to the Lord.”
There were many reasons why the
Jewish people did not heed the cry of God through the
true prophet Jeremiah, and there are many reasons why
modern Christians will not heed the cry of God’s
true prophets of today.
One of the reasons that some
sincere people will not hear is because they are
focused on the nations repenting rather than on the
Church repenting. We must continue to take the Word of
God to the harvest fields, but we must wake up and
realize that the Church is in desperate need of
repentance. It is a matter of first things first.
Jeremiah was calling the Jewish people to repentance.
In the book of Revelation, Jesus is calling the
Church to repentance. God’s true prophets are
calling the modern Christian Church to repent and
return to the Lord.
True repentance can and should
lead to the restoration of the Church, but I heard a
word in my spirit that needs to be considered. There
are some Christians, even leaders, in the various parts
of the modern Christian Church who are starting to have
their eyes opened to the need for repentance. The word
I heard in my spirit is that there is the danger that
in calling their denominations and groups back to the
Lord, they will try to shore up old wineskins. They
will try to go back to how they were in the past. They
will not fully realize that the past has produced the
present!
Any and all groups that I have
ever heard of have, to some degree, been built on some
human being’s vision of what a Church should be.
God does give visions to people, but it is His vision.
We have a major problem in all groups and denominations
in that they have mixed man’s vision with
God’s vision. That is why many denominations are
stumbling presently. If they sincerely call for
repentance but, again, mix man’s vision with
God’s vision, out in the future their group or
denomination will stumble again. It may be after they
have left this life, but it will happen.
God is calling for repentance! He
is calling for His people to search out and examine
their ways and turn back to the Lord, but He is not
calling them back to a mixture. He is calling them back
to Jesus Christ and His pattern and structures for the
Church that He is building. The time is short for true
repentance, and we do not need any more sincere
misfires. We need to all go back to the pattern found
in the Word of God and, in the unity of faith, grow up
in Christ. Those who have ears to hear, please, do
something!

BIBLICAL APPLICATION:
You disregard and give up and ask
to depart from you the commandment of God and cling to
the tradition of men [keeping it carefully and
faithfully]. And He said to them, You have a fine way
of rejecting [thus thwarting and nullifying and doing
away with] the commandment of God in order to keep your
tradition (your own human regulations)! Mark 7:8-9 AMP
